Light Yagami

"I'll take a potato chip, AND EAT IT."

Light is a very hardworking, ingenious, Japanese student. He condemns the lack of justice in this world and begins killing people as Kira to cleanse the world. After acquiring the Death Note, his goal is to create a new world that is free of criminals and injustice, where innocent and kind people can live in peace, becoming humanity's new God.

Physicals

Light Yagami is more of a cerebral character, using the Death Note as his main offense, and thus he lacks physical feats to a quite large degree. there are however, some impressive instances.

Strength:

• Sends L flying with a punch

Durability:

• Tanks a kick to the head from L

• Survives getting shot multiple times, he is killed by Ryuk's death note shortly after this. It is implied that he would have survived if not for Ryuk's interference

Speed/Skill:

• Beats the English junior tennis champion in tennis

Equipment

• A watch with a slide-out compartment containing a piece of the death note

Intelligence

• Full marks on prestigious university entrance test. He is very calm when doing the test

• Coerces ex-FBI agent Naomi Misora into giving Light her name, fiancée of the late Raye Penber

• Tricks FBI agent Raye Penber into not only giving Light his name. but also writing down the names of other FBI agents into the Death Note

• Uses a bag of potato chips to disguise his killing under the view of 64 different cameras

• Forms and completes a plan that involves him losing and regaining the Death Note and thus his memories to gain L's trust

• Manipulates a Shinigami to sacrifice herself to kill his enemy

• Creates an electric current to destroy the Death Note in case it is ever compromised

• Stated by the author to be smarter than master detective L in the 'How to Read' guidebook (Light scored a 9/10, whereas L scored an 8/10). This is further reinforced by Light's eventual victory over L.

• Hides his second life of mass murder for 5 years, even though he is a member of a the investigative task force

Death Note

“When you die, I'll be the one writing your name in my Death Note.“

Death Notes are supernatural notebooks owned by Shinigami (Gods of Death) that they use to replenish their lifespans, and can also be gifted to and used by humans (although humans will not have their lifespans extended). If the user knows the name and appearance of a person, they can write the name in the Death Note to kill them. The default method of death is a heart attack with a 40 second delay, although the Death Note can influence time until death, method of death, and even the actions taken before death (assuming of course that it is possible).

Ryuk

"Humans are so interesting"

Ryuk is the God of Death who gave Light a Death Note out of boredom and starts hanging out with Light. He is invisible to anyone who has not touched his Death Note (think JoJo stand) and has an unhealthy addiction to apples. It should be noted however that Ryuk is not loyal to Light and has the intent of eventually killing him.

• Helps Light look for cameras

• Let's Light know he's being stalked

• Kills Light when he asks him for help killing his enemies

• Completely invulnerable. This is proven here

• Like all Shinigami, Ryuk has Shinigami Eyes, which allow him to see the names and lifespans of people by looking at their face. Furthermore, he can give people these eyes if they consent in exchange for half their lifespan, but Light will never do this unless he is bloodlusted or it is his absolute only way to win. There is no difference in appearance between normal eyes and Shinigami eyes. Regardless of previous eyesight, those with Shinigami Eyes get 72/20 vision. Humans with Shinigami Eyes cannot see lifespans of other Death Note users

Misa Amane

“Yeah, but… to me, Light is more important than the world.”

Misa Amane is a girl obsessed with Light Yagami/Kira after he killed the man who killed her family, and also the Second Kira. She is generally thought of as a nuisance to Light, but he entertains her anyway to avoid her causing him trouble. She dedicates her life to assisting Light, and her Shinigami, Rem, is devoted to her enough to sacrifice herself for Misa

So why, you might ask would you ever use Misa? She may be unintelligent with none of Light's physical showings, but she has one thing that sets her apart. She has the previously mentioned Shinigami eyes, which allow her to see the names of people by looking at them. She will not hesitate to kill and acts entirely in Light's interests.

Use Misa in a situation where Light would not be able to figure out the opponent's name.

Shinigami Eyes WILL work if:

• A side view of the face is visible

• If the eyes are visible

• If their eyes are obscured when the rest of their face is visible

• Half of a face is seen vertically

Shinigami Eyes will NOT work if:

• The back of a person's head is seen

• Seeing the lower half of their face (eyes are not visible)

• Their body is seen but not their face
