Post Body

Hello! :)
Regardless of which avenue you found my page, welcome! I likely didn't say a whole lot on whatever posts I made, so you probably have some questions. I've written this to try to answer some of these questions and give a better idea of who I am and what I'm about. At least a few people I know unironically use reddit so I'll keep things intentionally vague to avoid doxing myself.

The very short version is that I am a scientist who works in the Hudson Valley in Upstate New York. Due to the nature of my work my free time is limited compared to my peers, and because of the area I live in that limited free time is usually only spent with people I already know. I'm hoping that I can meet new and exciting people through here. Feel free to message me if you see something you like! :D

The Cerebral

While I can't go into too much detail, there's two kinds of research I do: work related, and freelance. My work related research is about what you'd expect- I investigate new processes and maximize efficiency for processes we already have so we save time, money, and headaches for everyone else. My freelance research projects involve advanced topics such as particle and quantum physics, usually for space applications. The only difference between the two is that my work related stuff is usually on a tighter deadline.

On the outside I might seem pretty smart, but really that's just an illusion. My familiarization with many advanced topics doesn't change the fact that I have a great appreciation for things widely considered to be stupid. I would be honored to spend a weekend attending seminars hosted by the greatest thinkers of our time on the topics of astrophysics/astrobiology, but I'd also enjoy getting drunk and watching the finest programming of the early-to-mid 2000s offered by SpikeTV like Deadliest Warrior and Manswers with friends. In my opinion, both are equally important. The topics themselves aren't equally important, but I am steadfast of the opinion that losing your humanity to pure scientific/logical/sterile thinking in pursuit of technological advancement is just as dangerous as not tempering stupidity with reason. To deny people their humanity is a recipe for disaster.

The Physical

Not fat, not skinny, not overly-muscular but I'm stronger than I look. I mostly do full body exercises so I'm in shape. I don't have much to say about this outside of the pure stats, but I'm not looking to dox myself so I'll leave some of my personal bests from the gym. I usually go for being able to do more reps than 3 or 5 heavier reps:
Max Leg Press: 450 pounds
Max Pulldown: 220 pounds
Fastest 5K: 21:10
Anything spicier is best left for DMs ;)

The Political

We all have opinions that may be controversial. Up until about 2013 or so, I offended basically nobody. These days I can't seem to say anything that doesn't piss people off. Most of what I did in the past (school/college) and what I do now for work was based on scientific principles and the scientific method, so naturally my opinions are going to be based on that. As more and more people outright reject observable reality, I find myself more alienated as time goes on. It'd be cool if less of my peers rejected pseudoscience, not because of any personal beliefs related to intelligence, but because the self-destructive ideologies I see being pushed are completely unsustainable and will ultimately make things worse instead of better.

If that didn't make my political affiliations clear, I still consider Pluto a planet and I refuse to call Twitter "X" because I think it's stupid. :p
