A short story.
Her hair caught by the breeze, the nearby trees gently swaying, as if dancing with her. A flurry of colour drenched in a radiant yellow, the warmth on their skin comforting on a normal day. The birds sang, the sound carried on the wind.
She looked as though beauty itself sat patiently at her feet while she spun an elegant circle and blew out the candles on her cake. Her smile trying to compete with the sun itself. There was no competition. Her smile reached her eyes and brought out her dimples. "Smile for the flash!" It was a saying that had lost it's meaning, there would be no flash.
But yet she stood, the light in an already bright picture.
The air was still, there were no sounds. She stood silent and still as the deafening sound of the engine broke the silence. Her smile didn't reach her eyes any more, why would it?
She barely looked back as the spinning of the engine gave life, the power reaching down to the road and propelling him forward. The wind whipping past his face, carrying his tears away with it, mixing it with the rain.
His voice stifled by the song of the engine, the complaints of tires, turning the corner onto the all too familiar road and crossing the brightly painted centre line.
"Smile for the flash" he whispered.
There would be no flash.
