I'm your typical foreign exchange student, recently moving to (New York, London, etc..) to pursue higher education! I spoke perfect English, aside from the occasional forgotten word, and as much as I was the very happy-go-lucky kind of gal...I was struggling to make friends. It was pretty evident, and the college counselors noticed as well. There were frequent visits to make sure everything was going well, and I would say the same thing every time. "Classes are good, my grades are great, but I'm still lacking pretty heavily in the friend department." They would ask how many I'd made, and every time I would put up a 0 with my hand.
They decided they were going to ask the more extroverted kids, such as athletes, if they would be willing to give me even an ounce of pity. None of them said yes, which was expected, except for you.
