What do I have to keep in mind during my play through of the witch on the holy night?

So I bought the witch on the holy night now it is on ps4, and realize I don't know shit about visual novels, let alone type-moon visual novels.(exception is the fate/stay night)
What do I have to keep in mind? Do I have to ba careful about dead ends? Does the game even have multiple routes? Or should I just start playing and save before every choice?
