It oftem seems like if you have diabetes, you have other things like high blood pressure. If you take a drug like lisinopril or valsartan and they include HCTZ i really have to say beware. This is only a search on hctz and diabetes. I make no comments on what you might find
But here is what I found and it's completely anecdotal!! I am not a doctor. I have yet to speak to my doctor about it YET. But trust me this is blowing me away. I was having gout issues (also related to hbp and diabetes), and my dr stopped my valsartan/hctz and removed the HCTZ. Within weeks, my blood sugar is normal, if not low. MY a1c for years ranged from 8-12 (I didnt have diabetes before i started taking any drug with HCTZ), the day he stopped the htcz I was at 7, but only because I was taking metformin, glipizide and januvia and following a very strict very low carb diet.
To give you an idea my glucose readings were really high when I started testing like mad. Sometimes 400. Then I cut the carbs. Then down to an average of 150. Which does equate to 7 a1c. I still had highs and never lows, EVER. I never went below 110. Then because of high uric acid 9.8, HCTZ was removed.
Bam, within 2weeks I couldnt break 150 if I tried. I started seeing readings below 100. Often. EVEN FASTING!!!! Which was NEVER below 120 ever!! Now it's 80. And my sugar is often below 100, in fact more often that not. I find that I have to eat carbs now. Just to survive. When did I become type 1. I am starting to take less metformin until I talk to my doc to see what I should take less of?!
Then I looked it up, turns out HCTZ has been known to possibly cause diabetes. I am using my words carefully. Possibly. I can only give anecdotal evidence. But i cannot on current meds get my sugar high enough after stopping HCTZ! I went and ate candy, my readings went up 5 pts, where before they would go up 50.
I am different than you. Anything I said should not be construed as anything except what happened to me, always ask your dr, but man in my opinion, fuck HCTZ!
Seriously, I used mostly actual finger pricks then during part of it I used libre for the 2 weeks you get, and then right back to old school, the libre always read lower btw and I accounted for it in my anecdotes. Did I mention it's anecdotal. My shit was so high when I became a testing machine it didnt matter. Trust me, HCTZ is the devil,
