Newly Diagnosed - Metformin Problems
Post Body

Hello! I'm happy to find a subreddit dedicated to type 2. Definitely helps with feeling alone.

I've pretty much known I've been type 2 for quite a while now (based on symptoms and checking my sugars at home), but I got back from my doctor yesterday and got an official diagnosis. Everyone in my family has it, and quite frankly I've been stress eating/using eating to cope, so I wasn't surprised. It sucks, but my doctor tells me he's confident I can get it under control.

As such, to try and get it under control, I was prescribed metformin. What I was not expecting, however, was the awful, terrible, horrendous stomach pains that come with it. Being a college student with this is... not fun! So I'm basically wondering if this will ever go away. I'm really hoping it will, but I'm getting mixed answers. I'd love to know about others' experiences with metformin and if it wreaked havoc on your gut, for lack of better words.

Another thing I was curious about is Glumetza. That was the actual drug I was prescribed, but my pharmacy doesn't have it and they just gave me 500mg metformin instead. I've done a bit of Googling but again, it's nice to know an actual first-hand experience, so if anyone has taken that as opposed to metformin, if you're keen, let me know how that was.

Thank you for reading! Have a good day :]
