Post Body

First time round I was an able bodied person, but the renaissance has come a few years after a severe accident and illness left me permanently disabled (partial paralysis, brain stem injury causing weakness, epilepsy and memory problems as well as my speech being permanently altered). I was very lucky to survive at all, my chances went as low as 1 in 10 at one point, so whilst I'm so very grateful to be alive, it was a very slow and difficult road to reach even the level of functionality I have now. I still live with severe chronic pain as a result of 3 shattered vertebrae, and the amount of daily medication I'm on is unreal!

So, rereading the books and Midnight Sun has had a more profound effect on me this time around. The idea that, in the process of being turned, physical damage is reversed, your senses are enhanced, your memory is infallible etc, is something that I find myself daydreaming about; I'd give ANYTHING to just be in a condition where I never have to use a wheelchair, don't have to meticulously keep a diary so I don't forget basic things, where I'm not in pain 24/7.

It's a sad little fantasy, I imagine that for a lot of Twilight fans the idea of impossible beauty, super speed/strength, possibly a supernatural gift, is what they'd love. Of course I would too, but I'd definitely settle for the ability to tackle a flight of stairs, or be able to wash my hair without it exhausting me for an entire day! Although...must admit, I have a very difficult family situation involving no small amount of violence from a parent, so the ability to protect myself and the people I care about would absolutely be a dream come true.

I'm sure that there are plenty of fans who are living with a disability, but if there are any on this sub I'd love to hear if these kind of thoughts cross your mind, and what you'd wish for if it has!
