I was wondering if anyone has tips on turtle weight loss?

My turtle is 1 year and a month old and he’s a little fat. I stopped feeding him pellets regularly and started feeding him veggies once or twice a week. I’ve been doing this for 2 or 3 months now but he has barely lost any Weight. Would taking him outside to run around regularly help?
