Hello do turtles that spend the day in the sun need a uvb bulb? They spend their days in the sun in stocking tanks and come in at night. Then we attach their red light basking lamps. Their shells look very healthy but they’re also very young. We rescued a adult RES about a year ago my brother found her wandering the neighborhood & they are non-native where I live so we assumed she escaped from someone’s backyard pond because she was healthy and well fed and there are no water sources nearby so we put up posters and no one ever claimed her. So we built her a temporary set up (the picture shows her basking pool & recently my mom got her a large stock tank to swim in.) and started digging a pond since she was too big to be in a tank comfortably. One day she was getting some exercise crawling around the yard while my mom was cleaning her pool once she was down she found her in the area where the pond was being dug laying a clutch of eggs. We waited and four were fertile so we had to pause digging because we weren’t sure if we could/should move them. So they’ve hatched and we’re waiting for two of them to reach four inches so our local pet shop can take them we’re going to put the other two in the pond since they have better temperaments. How much sun should baby RES get? Should their light be supplemented? They aren’t in direct sunlight only their basking area and it has a screen over the top since there’s large hawks and raccoons and all sorts of other predators and scavengers. Any advice would be appreciated, thank you!
