So, i had a close call a few months back working on rough turning a piece. my roughing gouge caught in the wood, and a defect in the metal meant that it snapped and flew back up, hitting me in the visor (full shield, not just goggles, thankfully). since then i've been very nervous but WANTING to get back into turning.
Has anybody had similar happen to them, and if so did you have anything happen to you after that made you second-guess turning as a hobby?
**Edit: Thanks to all who have shared stories. It certainly helps to know that others have had some stuff happen and get back to it after a hiatus, and like you, i will be more vigilant when i do.
