What popular languages are closely related to Turkish?
Post Body
After looking around a bit, I see that most of the languages in the Turkic category are pretty much unheard of in the United States. Practically nobody here has even heard of Türkmen, Uyghur, Tatar or Kazakh. Some people from China know what Uyghur is and that its spoken in Xinjiang, but that's about it. As for Japanese and Korean, grammar is similar but overall not too sure. I know the writing systems are hard as fuck just by themselves.
I'm trying to get some college credit and would rather not have to learn an entirely different language.
