Jet Tone Al Hirt for a beginner?

So I'm a beginner, and the guy that sold me his trumpet threw in a mouthpiece for me to get started with. I told him I prefer a brighter tone, so he included this Al hirt piece. I was just wondering, for those of you who have any experiences with it, whether its too extreme for a beginner? I think the cup is shallow ish. I'm not sure whether as a beginner, I'm making my life much harder or not.
