I'm not sure how many others suffer through this, but I find myself constantly thinking of how much I LOVE certain games, and I want to replay them. To re-experience those stories and worlds. Games like Metroid Prime, or Metal Gear Solid (1&3), or Wind Waker. Game's that are easily in my top 10.
Maybe it's the linearity, but it didn't bother me before, and the story(MGS), world art (in the case of MP and WW), and gameplay are what draw at me. I just find myself restarting a game, and then within an hour, I'll abandon it and not return for months or years, before I get that craving to play it again and once more start over.
Knights of the Old Republic is a great example, I think. I LOVE the story from that game. I really want to re-experience. But every time I go to replay it... I stop before ever leaving Taris. Probably half a dozen times now.
Maybe it's just under-powered nostalgia? Remembering Phendrena Drifts, and the great music* that plays there makes me want to replay the game, but it's never strong enough to get me there.
Yesterday I re-bought Metroid Prime, and I'm really bothered by the idea that I'm going to start trying to replay that amazing game, with the intention of revisiting those beautiful environments, with their wonderful music... and just stop playing again, like I did before I traded in my original copy years ago.
* To head off any suggestions of just listening to the soundtrack, I do, but it's just not the same. Being immersed in the environment, being able to move around it, in combination with the music, I feel, creates a much different experience. Especially when the peaceful music kind of hides the danger still surrounding the player.
Anyway, I'm curious to other peoples thoughts. This is my first Truegaming submission, so I hope it's appropriate. It kind of feels a lot like I'm saying "does anyone else...", so I hope it is.
