When I'm out, I get passed a lot of joints but I'm always suspicious that I could end up smoking spice/k2 without knowing. Am I overly paranoid?

My last girlfriend got tricked into smoking spice 2 years ago, had some kind of a bad trip, and went into longterm psychosis. She eventually got better but, she was never the same again. Even now, she's extremely mentally unstable and irrational, we were really in love and now she's just kind of gone. The person who gave it to her was a close friend, he told her it just weed and she trusted him.

Anyways, joints get passed around like crazy where I live. I know my ex's case was probably an extreme example but I always think damn one of the days it could be me.
