I just wanted to post some information about the recent Menthol ban that the Biden Admin announced today.
I work in the vaping industry, and have been for the last 6 years. The persecution against vaping and its flavors have been something we've dealt with since the beginning. This led many of us in the industry (many who were first consumers) to become entrenched into tobacco control, health policy.
Unfortunately, at the end of the day we received no help from any institution nor the public, and ultimately, the US has effectively banned vaping in the US by removing shipping options. Yes this includes vaping marijuana products.
Now we're seeing the Biden admin looking to ban menthol smoking and flavored cigars.
So how does this affect marijuana?
First off, if you smoke any flavored blunts or papers, they will be banned. MFG's will not be able to produce these products
But it doesn't stop there.
The groups who pressured the Biden admin and FDA to ban menthol, have their sights on flavored marijuana. This means ALL FLAVORED MARIJUANA PRODUCTS. This doesn't just include flavored tobacco products used in marijuana. So we're talking gummies, candies, anything flavored that's consumed in marijuana.
Who are these groups? Well it stems from one person. Michael Bloomberg. The last couple years, he dedicated billions of dollars to remove vaping - and was successful in many areas. The main groups being ...
ASH & AATCLC
The reason they banned flavored tobacco was because these groups - along with many other Bloomberg funded groups like the AMA, AHA, Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids to name a few - filed a lawsuit against the FDA for exploiting the black community by targeting them with flavored Menthol cigarettes. They don't care about harm reduction. They don't care they are creating a black market which will increase the incarceration rate of minority men and woman, possibly opening them up to violence like the case of Eric Garner. They just care about their own virtue signaling.
And if you've been following these groups like many of us in vaping have, you'd know they plan to go after flavored marijuana next.
So what do you do?
If you care about this issue, you need to make your voice heard. There will probably be a comment period on this bill where you can voice your concern. But that won't be enough. There needs to be immense public pressure on the admin to change their course. What we did in vaping was not nearly enough. So hopefully now everyone can understand why we have been so frustrated around the situation.
Edit:
If you have any questions around this, or tobacco control, or why Bloomberg has a hardon for banning adult products, I'd be happy to answer them in the comments.
