Did i fucked up?

I am currently lv80 with a build Swordsman C2> Barbarian C2.
I planned to go Barb C3> Fencer > Doppelsoldner.
Seeing everyone go Peltasta C1 (for Guardian and SB) rather than going Swordsman C2. Did i just destroy my potential main? is Barb much better than Highlander for Fencer? Frenzy or Warcry? And is Fencer > Doppel good? I really like Fencer so i want to at least have it in my tree.
