Hey, r/travel! I leave tomorrow for my first trip out of the US. I need a little advice on how to pass the flight and help on understanding monetary conversion.
Post Body

I'm leaving tomorrow for a week-long trip to Ireland. I've flown before and usually enjoy it, but this will be my first "long" flight. It's an overnight flight, and the professor leading the trip, who has done this many times, suggests just sleeping through so that I won't be horribly confused by the time change. Any suggestions on how to sleep on a plane, or at least pass the time restfully?

My other question is about money. I bank with BoA, and when I called to let them know I was going to Ireland, they told me that there is a $5 charge on foreign ATM withdrawals, plus a 1% fee. I asked about just paying with my debit card, and they said that there is a 3% charge on each purchase. I asked if that accounted for the exchange rate between USD and Euros, and they said that it does on the ATMs but not on the purchases. Does that mean whatever I spend on card purchases won't be in Euros in my bank records? Which way would be cheaper in the long run, pulling the cash out and paying in cash or swiping everything on my card? I'm very confused by this. Thanks for any help you can offer!

TL;DR How can I sleep on a plane and BoA's foreign use policies are confusing.
