Looking for rugged, remote adventure travel suggestions!
Post Body

I'm planning a trip for this Spring and the options are overwhelming - Mongolia, Myanmar, Georgia, Uzbekistan, Egypt, China, Peru, there are so many possibilities! But I'm finding it extremely difficult to come up with information on the kind of travel I'm looking for: few to no tourists, off the beaten path but accessible, adventurous and culture rich but not spoiled by tourism.

Do you know any resources? Have any experiences you can share? Places to go, not to go?

A year ago I went to Iceland and rented a 4x4 trying to get away from the crowds and, while it was beautiful, it was ultimately a bummer of a trip as no matter how far I drove there were always loads of tour buses dropping people off everywhere ahead of me. Then I went to Vietnam, and somehow had the idea that it would be full of remote and quiet places to explore, but it was extremely touristy and, while I did have some beautiful moments where it felt remote and wild, came back from that trip wanting more.

I'm looking to spend 2-4 weeks exploring somewhere with a budget around $5k. I'm hoping there's at least a few people in this sub that are all about this and can help me out. Thanks!
