I am a 25 year old guy from Detroit, USA and have been to 30 countries so far. I can say from all the trips I have taken that no matter how far I travel or exotic the place my be there is time frame that is perfect for myself which is 3 weeks.
While I love the idea of traveling for months on end, especially when I was younger, after the 3 week mark I tend to not only get homesick but find myself asking "what am I doing?". The longest I have travled was 6 weeks when I went to France and Eastern Europe. While it was fun I was also 19 and had an insane amount of energy and need for validation of meeting people every second. I remember running out of all my money.
Although I have a tradition of going to a world city on a new continent every two years for a week during American Thanksgiving (Paris 2017, Tokyo 2019, Istanbul 2021, Buenos Aires 2023) I noticed on all these trips I either wanted to or have extended my time there.
In the future, if and when I can find a remote job, I will allow myself to see places for a few weeks and take work with me.
