I'm an American who takes the traditional 2 week vacations which isn't enough time to see even most things. And after my many travels I've learned that it's always the people, the journey and the unexpected things that make the trip memorable.
But with such short time, and knowing full well it's the off the beaten path type of places that are more interesting, I still cannot push myself to stop seeing the "must see" places that everyone knows.
I.E. The Sistine Chapel or Acropolis weren't very impressive or memorable. But I felt like I had NO other option but to go there. Even if I knew they were going to be underwhelming, I can't help but feel the need to because they are so well known.
How do I fight this feeling and do the fun stuff?
