When planning a big trip and trying to save money, what should my timeline look like as I prepare for it?

Post Body
I’m planning on taking a solo 3 week trip to Thailand at the end of 2024. I have a budget of $5k including flight. But, because I find satisfaction in doing things frugally, I want to keep that number as low as possible.
I can’t even start price checking flights/hotels/Airbnb’s right now. But when should I really start researching/planning? When should I book the flights, housing, entertainment, insurance? Is there anything I should be doing now?
I would love any advice you have.
