Traveling to Vancouver and Seattle as a gay man, I would love some recommendations

Hey so I am thinking of traveling to Seattle and Vancouver. I want to spend 4/27-4/30 in one city and 4/30-5/4 in another. As a gay guy who does not want to rent a car, what areas would you recommend me staying in? Which city has better night life? What would you recommend to do given the time of year? And how should I look out for my own safety in each? Thank you
