Milestone: Just made my first $1000 from audio engineering
Post Body

Just wanted to share this achievement with y’all as I honestly can’t believe I’ve gotten to this point.

I started my music journey back in 2016 as an artist. Frustrated with a lack of creative input and tired of combing through Youtube beats, I decided I was going to take matters into my own hands and start producing my own music. That decision snowballed into a self-taught journey (with the help of a few mentors along the way) from producing to mixing to audio engineering.

I figured if I was going to start taking this more seriously as a career, I needed to gain experience working on other people’s music and helping them achieve the vision they had for their own tracks. With no connections and no portfolio, I roughed it for a good while. I wasn’t about to offer a service based off of people’s trust in me without a solid understanding of the art of production and audio engineering, so I quite literally took the savings I had accumulated after college and buckled down for years going deep into the rabbit hole of music production and mixing.

There were and still continue to be hard times, but I’ve never felt more inspired and accomplished as I have chasing what I am truly passionate about. I’m embarrassed to say it but I never really had a musical upbringing. Never really learned how to play an instrument until I taught myself piano and the fundamentals of music theory.

I currently operate as a bedroom producer/engineer, but work with what I’ve got in terms of treatment, acoustics, and equipment. It was around January this past year that I reached a point where I was comfortable enough with my level of expertise and ability to start putting myself out there as an audio engineer. Since then, I’ve been able to build a solid portfolio of local clients that I work with that continues to grow, along with my reputation in my city.

I’m no one special. I’m still learning. I’m not rich with connections and didn’t really have anyone in my corner supporting me besides my family. That being said, it is possible to find success in this industry. I’m so very grateful for the opportunities and experiences I’ve had so far, and can’t wait for what’s in store down the line. Hopefully those of you out there on a similar journey get a little motivation from my story. I encourage y’all to do what you can to find your own way in this industry. It’s not easy, I’ll say that. It takes sacrifice. It’s lonely. But I wouldn’t honestly have it any other way. I have no intention of slowing down either. Here’s to the next 99 thousand.

P.S. I don’t post content on social media. It’s possible without all that.
