As the title says, I'm considering donating a Kidney to my mother who needs one. But I'm very nervous and apprehensive.
I have an appointment to check my potential fit for this further, since my mother and I are a blood match on paper. They will be running a slew of tests on me, which I'm also nervous about in case they find something wrong with me.
Has anyone here given someone else a Kidney? Can you tell me about your recovery, any complications, and continued daily life? How do you feel daily now, any issues how do you feel during the process emotionally?
What about folks who have received a kidney? any complications, concerns, issues with recovery? Emotional and physical feelings? How do you feel currently?
I've outlined my main concerns below.
I have Ventricular tachycardia (V-Tac), I had an ablation to fix this, but I still have flutters etc and haven't been able to really pursue this more due to having pretty crappy insurance. I will have an EKG on Thursday during my appointment, but should this be a concern for me?
I love to race my car on a track, it's my biggest passion. Will this effect my ability's to do this?
- My dad is adopted, We don't know about his medical family history, how much of a concern is this?
- My mom is a diabetic, we don't know my father medical history, and I eat like trash and am over weight. How much of a concern should this be for my future?
- I am a heavy cannabis user.
- What about pre-dispositions to having kidney disease myself, since she has it?
- How does recovery look?
- They mention you can feel depressed, grief, etc. I have depression, anxiety, etc, so this also concerns me.
