I live local to Yosemite National Park (YNP).
We've gotten so incredibly inundated with car traffic. I believe we accumulated 4 million visitors a year (the park that is). But traffic is miserable in Mariposa town. Congestion, and saftey are a huge concern to me.
Many travelers are coming from Merced. We have YARTS, but it's only 6-8 shuttles a day running from Merced to Yosemite, but I wonder what the feasibility of Merced, YNP and Mariposa collaborating to create a rail system that can run service through all 3 regions. We already have Amtrak San Joaquin line that takes people to our bus shuttles. But it drives me nuts that we don't just transition to rail and significantly cut back our support of cars in the park.
I am getting in touch with our planners in Mariposa and they're aware of the absolutely nightmarish car volumes. But where do I even start with this kind of conversation. Am I delusional for thinking this could easily be a worthwhile project to invest in?
I'm looking for insights on how to navigate conversations on this beyond "can we have rail please?"
