I think the "apolitical" nature of a lot of trans (or LGBT in general) groups is hurting us even though the vast majority of us are at the very least somewhat left leaning if not left wing. In my experience being in various LGBT groups, pretty much all of them were laser focused on LGBT issues and explicitly do not take a political stand in any other areas. Individuals may support strikes or various human rights issues but we don't have an org that actively overlaps with non-LGBT issues. Emphasis on actively because I acknowledge that there are orgs who put out a statement here and there on other issues.
We need something like Lesbian and Gays Support the Miners because in order to have allies, we need to be allies (I know issues are intersectional but you get what I mean).
We need to unite and build solidarity.
