Currently, the London GIC website has an information notice on the front page, stating that their patient record system provider experienced a "national outage" in August 2022, affecting a number of NHS trusts/providers.
I have recently received information from within the Tavistock GIC that this national outage was actually due to a cyber-attack against the patient record system provider. After this cyber attack was noticed by the provider, they immediately took the system offline to evaluate if any damage was done and investigate the cause. The Tavistock GIC was only granted access to some of the system in December 2022.
During this time, the clinic was unable to access and reply to a large amount of emails, book some appointments, view any patient data, etc. This led to an effective shut down of the clinic over these 4 months.
As far as I am aware, no patient information has been compromised at all, however the fact that the NHS has stayed completely silent on the fact that this incident occurred due to a cyber attack is highly concerning. I do not know what other trusts have been affected and how.
