Should i go through with looking for a different name than my birth name for myself?
Post Body

Recently i've thought more than usual about finding a different name for myself as my birth name is very feminine and i am non-binary and usually would like to be referred to in a neutral or masculine light which isn't really what my name would suggest. But i'm very nervous about doing so because if i ever want to use said name as my legal name i would have to change it legally and that's 1 expensive 2 i wouldn't be able to explain why without outing my self. another reason is that my family would probably never use it for me as those who i'm out to barely use my preferred pronouns and those who i'm not out to, i'm not out because they are very transphobic. i'm considering just find a name and having it as a second name to be used like a nickname on some days by my close friends that i'm out to that i know would use it for me unless we are in a area where someone who i know that i haven't told might over hear it (given i live in southern USA most people around here (other than a small group of people) are many of the -phobics) so to anyone who read this whole thing, should i go through with looking for a different name than my birth name for myself?
