I wanted to post this somewhere since it wont be public for another week. And this sub has been a source of inspiration for me so it felt like the best place.
The first trans inclusive and queer owned waxing center in the Midwest is opening in January. They can't stop me. Its already done. Rent is paid, contracts signed and in a conservative city in 'The Heartland'; a safe space for us is going to be in the mall. I wouldn't have been able to do it without drawing strength from my community.
For those that do not know or haven't tried. Wax centers to not take trans folk or men for brazilian wax services. Everyone should have access to feeling their best and getting beauty services.
(Strands for Trans is a great organization for finding trans friendly hair salons btw!)
Even tho I am out, until recently I was using alot of my deadnamed stuff (snap/reddit etc.,) Mainly out of habit. This new venture has helped me become even more comfy with myself. Thank you to everyone who has shared their experiences. I have never posted (on this or my old account) but I have read, cried and shared with others all the things I learn here. This is a wonderful space for us and I believe we need to take these wonderful spaces to the real world.
I drank to much coffee and am rambling... but the real TL;DR is if you are good at something or have a vision for a space for our community, please please please take the leap of faith and open that space.
I have no idea what the future will hold or if I will be successful, but if one girl gets waxed and has their gender affirmed and is respected from the time they view my little rinky dink website to the time they leave the spa then I have succeeded in my mind. We have to stick together, just like every other minority group in history. Maybe not a "little italy" in every city, but we need to stick together and create spaces where we can be free to enjoy every aspect of life. Not just the ones that are pre approved by the cis
