So I legally changed my name almost a month ago, and I'm still dealing with updating shit.
I've found that it's a generally long process to update even a single thing (ssn, drivers license, bank, health insurance etc). I've also discovered that it's much longer to update these with a legal name change than a marriage license change. Which, I get for security purposes, but I also sense underlying transphobia. Like the majority of people who legally change their name are most likely trans, and to make that more difficult is ridiculous.
I've had to send in multiple documents for some places to verify my name change. But, before I specified it was a legal name change, they would just take my word that I changed my name (thinking it was bc I got married). The whole system is fucked up.
Anyway, thanks for taking the time to read my little rant. I'm just fed up with it all lol. But I know, so many people in the trans community have it worse. To all of you out there who are dealing with much worse transphobia and harassment, I see you, you are valid, loved, and appreciated ❤️
Take care guys
