I used to love D&D and played back in highschool when 3.5 was really popular, i tried a group after that was playing 5E and liked how it worked but the group didnt like that rogue are overpowered because of sneak attack so the DM flat out told me that i wouldnt be getting sneak attacks anymore and he also said i would be given less exp to balance out the unfairness which was bullshit. I tried to come to a compromise, id make a new character at current characters level but not a rogue but he said no cause that would be unfair since other players couldnt make new characters at their current characters levels. Second group i tried was also playing 5E and they were really nice mostly but me and the dm had a disagreement that he refused to be resonable in dealing with, he made our characters have items that got the characters almost killed in an attack, knocked them unconciouse causing excruciating pain, then made them hallucinate so naturally i wanted my character to try several means of getting rid of it (i knew my character wouldnt be able but natural reaction would be to try) so they took over playing my character and just kept saying "your character isnt worried about the item so no he doesnt try to remove it" and then proceeded to tell me to expect them to take control my character if at any time i did somthing that wasnt somthing he wanted to happen. (I get the dm controls the game but making my character make irrational decisions because they want the story to only progress the way they predicted is stepping over the line imo, maybe im wrong but if i am they werent willing to explain why) i just want to find a group that like doing homebrew stuff prefferably since that generally means the group has imagination and is just playing to have fun, i miss making fun characters and going on adventures, i miss roleplaying with like minded people, i just want to have the chance to play again like i used to.😞
