Names with apostrophes

One thing that really bothers me is when I find tragedeighs where the parents were not content to play with letters (-eigh, or various jumbles of y, z and x) but saw fit to use random ass punctuation marks as well! I went to Walmart yesterday and saw a Leslie, spelled "L'Eslye". I also used to work with a woman named Deanne who spelled it "D'Anne". Why on earth is an apostrophe supposed to make it cute?
