I live in a state that has recently been taken over by Joro spiders: https://news.uga.edu/joro-spiders-likely-to-spread-beyond-georgia/amp/
They’re harmless but huge and terrifying and EVERYWHERE.
I have a lot of trees on my property that border pasture, and I cut under them. Also, my wife trail rides through our forest on her horse. Under many, many trees are giant spider webs with these massive terror fiends, and we find ourselves getting smacked and covered by them constantly. Every time we have a little panic attack and there’s nothing we can do about it - these are massive spiders.
We don’t want to run into these anymore. In our imagination, we imagine having mini flamethrowers and burning them down as we pass. I’m assuming this is pretty impractical and dangerous, especially around the horses.
What else have y’all tried that has worked to knock these down and/or kill them before you run into them (from a distance), and ideally prevent them from coming back if possible ?
When I lived in Florida, we always took dressage whips trail riding, and whoever was in the lead waved it in front of them while going through wooded areas. Nothing worse the finding a massive spiderweb with your face 😬
