When should I lift for the 800 meters?

I'm 22 and started running this year I broke 16 in the 5k and 2 in the 800 meters. So far I been doing my weight sessions twice a week right after my speed days. After seeing Nick Symonds training logs I saw that he was doing weight sessions on different days then his speed work. is this an approach I should take? I want to see how far I can take my running :)
