How do I tell my coach that I am physically incapable of performing this next week due to injuries?

Post Body

For almost two weeks, I have been experiencing pretty awful quadricep pain. First I tried ignoring it, but it kept getting worse. Now the pain has essentially become unbearable, and I'm fucking limping like crazy. I've tried icing, stretching, and resting it but the pain is still very rampant. Now I'm stuck. I've been an athlete for years, and I've always completed practices or meets despite if there is any pain. To me, missing out due to pain was never an option. Injuries were only physical, as long as I was mentally alright, I could overcome the pain. But now I'm demoralized. I've never experienced this amount of pain before. I'm not happy, I'm not feeling great, nor am I wanting to compete in Track & Field anymore. I'm depressed, and I've lost all motivation to improve. Now I'm just looking for the season to end, once it's over this pain can just leave.

I've finally set up an appointment with a chiropractor to evaluate my injury. Now I'm basically expecting that I will be told to sit out for at least a week (best case scenario). Now how do I tell my coaches this? I know it sounds silly, but I don't want to come off as lazy or "not toughening up". I am in immense pain, and I'm extremely worried of stupidly permanently damaging something. However the season is about to end, and I could likely push myself to the end. I don't know how to approach them, I just feel so demoralized and drained at the moment. Any advice would be great, thank you.
