When I was a kid I got 2 spur thighed tortoises, it turned out both were male, they were already a pair but the owner presumed they were male and female. They have lived at my parents house because my garden is a match box for a few years now and were 15 years old. About 5 years ago they had a few tiffs but they then became close friends again and lived in harmony together. They never argued and shared food between them and both grew in equal size. A few weeks ago the unthinkable happened and a fox broke into their run and dug it up (during the day before they came in for the night) one of them was taken or ran away we don't know. We've looked all over but can't find him. The other remaining tortoise has been checked by a vet and is in good health but he has been not his usual self and has become a bit of a recluse. I don't know if this is from the trauma of the fox or because he misses his buddy. What do I do to cheer him up? Does he need a new buddy or a lady friend or would this upset him more?
