I went to the big ātrunk or treatā with the kids the other day at Stormount Vail Expo yesterday and I was absolutely shocked by the lack of police presence. Iāve lived in a lot of places before moving here, and this is exactly the kind of event where the police would have been at - either just keeping an eye on things or setting up a cool swat car for the kids to get candy from.
Iām not looking for a dumb political debate, so if itās a funding issue, then get the funding - instead we have tge shawnee county DA yucking it up with the morning news and deflecting the issue from our bullshit local āleadershipā and 30-whatever murders like itās just a few ābad applesā like weāre talking about hooligans TPing houses!
There should have been cops there. Whatever the issue is it needs to get fixed.
This is bullshit. The city needs to stop buying hotels (which, btw, I spotted some shady people just milling around while at the expo center) and get their goddamn act together.
ETA: I seem to be getting a few negative reactions to this and I want to put this into perspective for people.
Topeka has had something like 31 homicides this year with a population of around 125K
San Francisco, a city of around 825,000, has had 43.
Pretending that this isnāt an extreme problem wonāt solve this issue. Stop with this denial and start demanding accountability.
