Would the Valar have intervened if Sauron reacquired the One Ring?
Post Body

I've seen a lot of speculation as to what would happen if Sauron attained the One Ring and defeated the free peoples of Middle Earth.

One thing I haven't seen much speculated about is whether the Valar would send another Host of the West to oust him.

It seems to me that this would be less risky than the War of Wrarth's inrervention since:

  1. Morgoth is gone.

  2. The Dragons and Balrogs are dead or dormant.

  3. Sauron is not Melkor, therefore he is not woven into existence the same way he was, so defeating him would likely not result in a whole region of a continent sinking.

It seems to me like Eonwë could just show up with his pals, give Sauron a spanking, and bring him kicking and screaming back to Valinor if he got the upper hand.

Or do you think the Valar would have left Middle Earth to languish in ruin because one of their wayward vassals?
