If a Balrog from the First Age was able to flee from Angband and re-emerge later under Khazad-Dum, does that imply the existence of a subterranean tunnel network under Middle Earth?
Post Body

I know it's kind of a stupid and speculative question, but when I hear about 'the Nameless Things' and the Balrog in Moria, I always wondered if there is some deep, deep place under Middle Earth connected by huge tunnels, allowing these things to move around and hide from the world above. Am I onto something or is this just pure conjecture?
