She was throwing her toys and one of them hit my mum, so we made a fuss about "Oh no, poor Grandma! That hurt her! Are you okay, Grandma?"
My daughter hung her head and and wandered away, and when I went after her she had tears in her eyes and looked so sad, and she wouldn't make eye contact with me. I think I made her feel ashamed, and I just find that unbearable. But at the same time I don't know what would have been a better way to handle it.
My dad says that when she hung her head her head she whispered, "Sorry", and I totally missed it.
I feel terrible.
