I really don't know what to do anymore... our 3 year old is constipated for a week like twice a month. It's been this way on and off for half a year. He moves A LOT, drinks a ton of water and gets a good amount of fiber, so all of that is fine. The doctor just says to keep giving laxatives when he's constipated, but he gets painful cramps and wakes up in the middle of the night crying cause he has to poop and it hurts so bad. We can't get him to eat prunes/pears/apples, and raisins doesn't help a whole lot. The doctor has also said suppositories are okay sometimes, but we tried it and he was in so much pain for an hour before he finally pooped. We've also gotten a no to magnesium citrat.
At this point I'm kinda scared there's something else wrong. So I wanted to know if anyone has any experience or advice to give?
Seek a pediatric gastroenterologist while trying diet changes, regular toilet time, and relaxation techniques for your child's constipation.
