The only way oxygen levels in a room could decrease would be if there were other factors at play, such as poor ventilation or a large number of people using up the oxygen in the space.

I'd assume myths can start from small spaces with little to no ventilation being filled with multiple friends drinking and one having minor oxygen issues and passing out while a fan just so happens to be running. Also assuming central AC and non manual ventilation are problematic or were back then. So yeah you have to actually keep an eye on your oxygen supply in such cases.

Yeah that's what I'm getting at. The myth probably stems from issues unrelated.
