Is the Volt a hitscan or projectile weapon?

I was using the Volt the other night and noticed my shots weren't always hitting their mark, especially at very long range. It may have just been bad connection but it definitely felt like I had to lead or compensate my shots in order to hit at any range past roughly building-to-building distance in Boomtown. A lot of the energy weapons in the game are projectile so I guess it wouldn't be too surprising for the Volt to follow the same model but it'd just be really strange to make the most recoil-consistent SMG, clearly meant for longer range combat, to be a projectile weapon that you have to compensate range for.
