This is a wide release Hollywood movie from the 1990s or possibly late 80s or early 2000s. I thought it starred John Travolta, but I must be wrong about that because it doesn't appear on his IMDB page. In the movie, a pilot who was lost in World War II returns in his airplane, unaware that decades have passed and it is now the 90s (or whenever the movie is). He reunites with his love interest and they have a romantic interlude as well as some fish out of water humor, but then for some reason he has to tragically fly away, never to return.
I don't remember how the love interest part works. They were the same age in the movie timeframe, so he can't be reuniting with his WWII wife or girlfriend. Maybe she's living in his old house, or something. I remember a scene where he's able to do household repairs because he's a 1940s man, not a wimpy 1990s man who can't mend a fence. I also remember that the airplane itself was maybe about the size of a DC-3 or B-25, and that it landed and took off from a grassy field near the house.
