I remember this one as one of the many dvds my uncle brought over. Taking place anywhere from 1920-1940, I recall it being based on a true story. It was about a lady whose son goes missing and it starts out with the search to find him, eventually leading to them apparently finding the boy. When they are reunited she says โthatโs not my sonโ and the state deems her insane and tosses her in an asylum. The rest of the movie is her attempting to navigate the nightmare that was mental health facilities back then, couple with bits of some people still searching for her son. Eventually it comes out that there was a serial killer who (i think?) killed her son and he gets caught when his accomplice (a young boy, maybe his brother) comes forward. Eventually her impostor son admits he just wanted the attention and to feel loved or something and it ends with her causing some mental health reform. I work at a mental hospital now and this has been bothering me all day. Thanks in advance!
