I suddenly had this vivid memory just now, where I was at my cousin's house in the early 90s. I walked up to the play room and saw this plastic purple mountain toy thing. It was hinged, and it opened like a book or a brochure. It was laying flat on the floor, "mountain" side up. I feel like it had this little metal stick thing attached to it on a toy rope. It looked like a small metal nail file, but maybe it was a sword or something? But it looked like it was part of the toy. This purple mountain scene, which I swear was some kind of Skeletor toy, also had holes in it. So maybe it was a big purple skull instead? And the holes were the eye and nose sockets? I'm not quite sure.
So I got curious, and I started messing around with it. Keep in mind the room was totally silent. I was just quietly playing. To me, the little holes looked like slots, so I just baaarely stuck the sword into one of the little holes. IMMEDIATELY, this loud, horrid, droning noise roared from the toy and broke the silence. It scared me so badly that I jumped out of my skin, heart racing. I immediately yanked the sword out and made a mad dash out of the room. It terrified me, and I never spoke of it to anyone.
I did some Googling and found Snake Mountain, but it seems to be missing that horrible noise feature.
I'm pretty sure it wasn't broken, because my cousin wasn't somebody who had broken toys. So I know it's a long shot, but what the heck was that toy!?
