I tried to find this book here a few months back, but no dice. I've remembered a few extra things, so hopefully someone is able to find it!

There are a group of characters that start the book by playing a game, and they get sucked into the game. The main character you start by following is a teenage boy if I I remember correctly, and we also follow his younger sister(could be the sister of someone else in the group). I remeber that early on in the book, the group are trying to find food and attack some monkeys in the game, but realize they cannot harm them. They then try to attack each other, but also realize that they can't do that either. I remember that there is a conversation that goes something along the lines of:

Person 1: "how are we going to get food if we can't hurt the animals?" Person 2: if only we had some microwave food!" Person 1: "but... we don't even have a microwave??"

Might have been more among the lines of "of only we had a microwave to make food" where the reply was "but where will you power it up.? And get the food??". Not sure, but close to one of them at least.

Then as the book progresses, as the characters die in game, they disappear from the game, and the people left over worry if they also does in real life. Then at some point they reach a tribe of sorts where the creator of the game is, and he explains his vision about virtual reality, and uses an example of being able to virtually trying on clothes before buying them. Then at some point, they're forced to fight some of the npc's, and it looms pretty grim until the aforementioned little sister kind of saves the day? I cannot remember exactly, but I kind of remember the joke throughout the book being that she was annoying and useless, but I seem to remeber that without her, they might have died. I think she befriended someone that ended up helping them in the battle? I think she helped some of thr NPCs who ended up helping them get into a fort in return?

And then as they clear thr came, they get back to the real world, and after calling the people that "died" in game, they realize that they in fact are still alive. I can't remember if they gave an explanation as to why they didnt just log in again, but I think it might be that when they died, the software they used broke? Might not be what happened, though.

Random stuff I remember: I read it in danish, but I am fairly certain that the named were all English so I think its english originally. It's not user unfriendly or ready player one. I read it pre 2012, but unsure when it's from exactly.

I remember the game world to be sci fi oriented, and not fantasy, butni could be wrong.

The cover of the book were dark, as in I think it was night time, andnit was drawn in a sort of cartoon style if I remember correctly, with what I remeber to be the main characters ready to fight. There might have been fire somewhere on the cover? I remember one of the characters from the group kind of pointing towards where they have to run.
