Post Body

I read a short story in a Sci Fi anthology a while back. It was about a guy abandoning his wife or SO in order to get himself on a ship that was headed to another planet. I believe the planet he left was destroyed shortly after the ship left. He chose to leave her behind to save himself. This was a colony ship with only a few cryo pods that were reserved for the Captain and a few officers. I think a mutiny happened and this guy ended up as the de facto ruler after a while. Well, the rest of the colonists eventually lost access to their library or other sources of learning and became very tribelike and developed a religion. This was over the course of thousands of years of travel. Our protagonist would wake up every couple centuries to ensure they hadn't wiped themselves out. Every time he would wake up, he showed some sort of favoritism to the colonists who most resembled his abandoned wife. Eventually, after a couple dozen cycles like this, his cryo tube malfunctions and he wakes after 20,000 years. Every single person on the ship looks exactly like his wife and then he feels like an asshole? I forget how it ends. Does anyone have a title for me?
