I watched the movie around 2009 or 2010. It didn't look like a movie that was made in the 1990s or earlier, so it was probably made in the 2000s. I doubt it was ever released in US theaters. I don't remember any of the actors or much about the plot. I mainly remember that the main characters were a little boy who was probably about 10 years old and a scruffy-looking middle-aged man who was also somewhat buff. The story took place in modern Japan, and I think the man was escorting the young boy somewhere. I sort of remember a scene where they were at a traditional Japanese festival.
I might be remembering incorrectly, but I think the story was meant to be a heartwarming tale about an energetic middle-aged man trying to cheer up a somber little boy.
